Dear John
Lights, Camera, Action. Have you ever watched a movie or TV show and wondered what it would be like to be part of the action, even if it’s in a non-speaking role? Well, look no further! Becoming an extra in the world of television and film can be an exciting and rewarding experience for anyone who has a passion for the industry.
What will you need?
Pictures: You should have recent photos of yourself ready to send to casting directors. There’s no need for professional headshots. A simple photograph or a selfie taken of you on an average day generally works best. Yes, photos taken with a cell phone are just fine. The goal is a clear and current photo that honestly represents you as you look in everyday life.
DO:
- Have at least two photos. The first photo should be a close-up of your face and shoulders (headshot). The second photo should be a full-length shot of your entire body.
- Keep your photos current ie within the last 3 months if your appearance is the same. Photos should be updated immediately if you: cut or dye your hair, gain or lose weight, shave or recently grow facial hair, got braces, or had them removed. Your goal is for casting directors to see exactly what you look like NOW.
DON’T:
- Wearing hats, sunglasses, or masks in your photos.
- Apply filters to your photos to alter your appearance in any way or to add cartoon effects.
- Send photos that are too big or small. If you send a digital photo that is the size of a postage stamp, we can’t see what you look like! If you send a photo that is too big, we may have trouble seeing you as well.
Measurements and Sizes: Have your basic measurements ready.
Men: Height, weight, jacket size (42R is an example), dress shirt size (neck and sleeve), casual shirt or T-shirt size, pant size (waist and inseam), and shoe size. Sometimes you may be asked for a hat size if you know it.
Ladies: Height, weight, jacket/coat size, shirt size, pant size, dress size, shoe size. You should also include your measurements (chest, waist, and hips).
Vehicle: If you have a vehicle that you would be willing to use for filming, and it’s in good running shape, have those details ready also. We need to know the year, make, model, and color (for example 2010 Chevy Malibu Silver). Please also have photos of the vehicle ready (front and side views). Please note, your vehicle will only be used if you are booked specifically with your vehicle. Also, productions usually won’t use vehicles that are white, red, or other bright colors.
